co-incidence or miracle?! :)

There are times in life that just leave you believing in the power up above and your ability to reach it, just a l'il bit more than usual.

This happened a coupla years ago when we were coming back from Chennai, by train, after attending buddy S ki shaadi. M told me to give him the ticket because I might drop it from the purse while removing or putting the stuff back in. I said OK, more than happy to get rid of responsibility of any kind.

We reached our compartment and M generally checked to see if we remembered our seat numbers right and the ticket had disappeared! It could have fallen anywhere, starting from the hotel where the reception happened to anywhere on the station. We had the envelope in which the e-ticket was couriered to us with the PNR number. But knowing how rules most often defy logic, we were wondering what else we can do. M though he will go to a cyber cafe and try and get s print of the confirmation email. easier said than done. Cyber cafe was on the other end of the station and when M reached he realised the speed was so slow that there was no hope of getting the print till after the train left.

Me, I was waiting on the platform, after keeping our samaan under the seats. My cell phone was not on roaming and I didn't know what to do. Suddenly I thought, I might as well go inside and sit down and wait for M to get back. Can you believe our luck? As I reached my seat, I saw two men standing outside by the window, with a ticket in their hand, asking who was sitting on so and so seat?! I just snatched the ticket and realized it was indeed our ticket. I thanked those people profusely and requested the guy sitting next to us to lend me his phone, so that I could call M and inform him that he should get back imm.

I mean what are the chances that someone actually picks up a dropped and ticket and then takes EFFORT to come and return it to the rightful owners?!

I of course shared this experience with my folks and friends because I was so zapped by the whole thing.

Then, my mom called me last night as we were getting ready to go and watch last show of Fashion. She was coming back from Pune yesterday evening after enjoying the Diwali festivities. She kept the ticket in her trouser pocket so that its easily accessible. Somehow and somewhere, either her pocket got picked or she dropped the ticket. She reached the platform and was trying to confirm if it was the same train number, when she realised she had lost the ticket. Now my mom panics really easy and quick. My dad had forgotten his phone, so she couldn't call and check what she should do next?!

She remembered her compartment and seat and thought she could by a general ticket at least and then reason it out with the TC or worse pay the fine. So she started walking towards the counter and was crossing over a bridge, when she realised it will take too long. She remembered OUR Chennai incident and thought it could happen to her also that some good Samaritan will come with hers and she decided to turn back and take her seat.

As she was walking back she saw a sweeper cleaning the bridge and noticed an old looking ticket. She wondered what if and suddenly noticed her hanky in the dirt pile getting collected. She rushed and told the guy to just hold on. Miracle of miracles, it was indeed HER ticket! :D

She thanked the sweeper profusely and went to her train without a worry!

So, my mom called to tell me, that sort of, thanks to me, she found her ticket!

Would you call it just a co-incidence or some angel looking over us making the right things happen?!

So in these times, where religious strife seems to be taking away our ability to look at another human being with trust and without being judgemental, let's think back to good things that have happened to us and others. How many times did you wonder what was the religion of that Good Samaritan? Or did you stop extending your helping handing to someone who needed it because you had to first check the religion and caste?!

Let's try and notice these little miracles in our life to start with and then make them happen often... Let's respect fellow human beings and be giving and kind... Let's try NOT to be judgemental and try and condone acts of violence under the name of faith...

Like my favourite Tantra tee says "God is too big to fit into any one religion"

Cheers to that!

Once inside a temple, my father took out few visiting cards from his pocket n Rs 500 fell down without his knowledge. Two guys followed him and asked if he has lost anything, dad said-No. Later they handed the note to him.

Indeed a miracle n kindness of those 2 ppl to return it :)

Abha, I love the powerful message at the end of this post. Lovely words. ...yes I too have found amazing gestures of humanity when least expected. More than once. My sister says I have a guardian angel protecting me. Should not forget those unexpected gestures.

the moral of the story was so well said. we were pretty much skewered that day. the happiness when the ticket 'miraculously' appeared was unparalleled. it was nothing short of a miracle, both the incidents.

i remember how i used to pray for the local starting from Andheri to get just 2 minutes late when walking from home to station. those critical 2 minutes as you descended the steps to platform 2, knowing well the bombay local penchant for punctuality and yet feeling so relieved when the train actually stood by, just to start as soon as you got a foot in...

but that was before Raj Thackeray threw me & God out of his life and his city.

What a faith-inspiring story. Thanks for sharing.

And yes, the Tantra saying says it all!

Mama - Mia said...

BBs mom - yes! isnt it the truest statement about god?! :)

IHM - yes! even i have firm belief that i do have a terribly protective guardian angel looking over me!! and such moments of kindness help me have faith in what my dad always says. there are more good people in this world than bad and thats why the world goes on! :) i cant write sensible posts like you about this issue, so i took the sentimental route! :)

V - true! if we try to actually notice, there are more things going our way than not! :) and raj thackrey is an idiot with too much power! dangerous combo indeed! lets hope sanity prevails!

namesake - am sure all of us have few such incidents to talk about! and yes tantra usually says it all. my otha fav is one that says allergic to pricks!! :p

cheers!

I guess good thing happens to good people :) ... esp to the Godess of Positivity :D
You gave out such a lovely message using these anecdotes. Religion, caste, language become such small divisions in front of humanness. I do hope and pray that people remember that they are humans first and Marathi/Bihari only after that!

Mampi said...

Of course these are two of those human miracles, and come to think of it, what chances did u have of borrowing a mobile fone to make a call?
I have a firm faith in miracles, our own miracles happening to us in day-to-day life.

Mama - Mia said...

preethi - now THAT is something i would love to read about!! in your typical style!! :D

2b's mom - thanks!! :) if only all of us realised the truth in that statement! :)

momo's mum - yup yup!! poor you guys!! khud ke reception mein hamaara ticket dhoondh rahe the! :p

WIAN - M ko bhi toh kuch credit do!! he is also a good person! :p and yes! whole hindu, muslim, christian, biharis and marathis is all crap! sooner we realize it better for us! :)

mampi - yup! the guy who lent me his phone was quite a help too! :)and these shows of kindness is what makes us human beings, isnt it?! :)

cheers!

So true. I loved the message at the end too :) I think in today's day and age, we often forget to count our blessings and apprerciate the good things that come our way either in person or in disguise and mostly sway towards things that have not happened to us or things around us. God bless the sweeper and the guys :)

I think you guys are really lucky!

Such acts restore one's faith in humanity, doesn't it? Happened to us once too.

Our Rajdhani tickets had fallen out of R's pocket and he didn't even realize it. A guard at the international airport found them, saw his name, called the travel agent to find out where we were staying and then called us up to notify that our tickets were with him. Why would anyone make so much effort for a perfect stranger? Well -it wasn't money because he refused any with a quiet dignity I'll never forget.

Oooh, that one left me all goosebumpy! But i stand by what i've always believed: there are no co-incidences, only strategic occurences we don't understand yet. Actually stopped by to tell you that the Boy and I had dinner opposite the place you and hubby met. :0) He pointed it out to me last night and I felt compelled to tell you...for reasons I don't understand yet! ;0)

Mama - Mia said...

SnS - true! we are so busy noticing what we dont have that others have that we really forget what matters!

munchkin's mom - said it all in one line, you! :D

MysticM - wow!! thats really awesome. its awesome how some people go out of their way because they cannot imagine NOT doing the right thing or rest before they have known they have taken all the efforts possible.

channi - yay! we are good people!! :p but its true one good turn gets another! :)

shalini - yup yup yup!what C said is 100% truth!

OJ - yes perhaps what you say is true... there are still so many things we just dont undrstand! and sorry, but hubby's funny bone crushed my romantic one ages ago! and apparently elephantine size doesnt assure similar memory! so indulge me and teme where was this?! :D

cheers!

Mom, me and BB had been to a cafe recently and in the whole i'll-pay-no-i'll-pay thingie she left her wallet there. We were home before we realized what had happened. Mom had given up hope of ever finding it (she had about 3000 bucks in it) but I told her that we shud at least go back and check for it. We went back and looked aorund but couldn't find it...I was just appraoching the conter to ask if anyone had returned it when the young waiter came running to me and asked me if I was looking for a wallet. I can't tell u how relived my mother and I were. It's so, so rare to find such honest people.

wow! what a story! And yes, it is just such moments, in my case most of the time smaller but still important ones, which make me realise that God is up there taking care of us and we should be so thankful to him and and do what is expected of us, be responsible beings on the earth, human and humane to each other.
A wonderful post!

These kinds of incidents happen all around us all the time...but the hatred, violence, discrimination and mistrust pervades in our minds so much coz of all the media reporting and politics that we are astonished each time we meet good people with good hearts...

Glad you wrote about your experience and so many others wrote or at least remembered thier own after reading your post.

We really must write about all things good, to restore our faith and trust in goodness of humanity.

Mama - Mia said...

aparajita - welcome! :) and yes what you say is so true. i am sure we have been a part of such small and positive incidents very often. either as the receiver or giver.

but somehow we dont remember them as often as we should!

thanks for the lovely comment! :)
