its a monkey... its an alien... no its Bumpy!!

it was time for the monthly check up. thankfully the dad-to-be was also there this time! i was hoping that she would do a scan so that mayunk can see Bumpy too! :)

and she did too! i asked Doc if mayunk cud watch, and she said ofcos yes! as the screen lit up slowly Bumpy started taking shape. ofcos without doctor's guiding stick we couldnt really make out much! :)

she started pointing at different parts. The head and the eyeballs followed by its Spinal Cord! it was eerie to see an almost transparent Bumpy with its heartbeat showing and even some gas! ;)

Bumpy was quite shaant for sometime and suddenly we started seeing movements! kicking its legs and moving its hands above its head! (i wish i knew the gender so that i stopped calling poor Bumpy "it"!)

i am still not feeling any movements! the doc said i should latest in next coupla weeks!

my weight shot up far too much even for my chilled out doc's liking! :( guess i went overboard on eating out and eating out with cheesy stuff thinking ab toh badhna hai weight toh dil khol ke khaao! BIG mistake!

am sure to be more sensible now! less of fatty stuff and rice which i have been gorging on last month to satisfy my hunger pangs!

Bumpy you getting bigger by the day i guess! Your dad was amazed how in the world a human being can be comfy in such a small space??!!

But that how nature has intended it to be! Hope you enjoying your stay! yesterdays scan makes me want to see you and hold you so much more!

i have been imagining if you are a girl or a boy, what would you look like, would you recognise us once you are out?! hehe!

stay safe and see you soon!! :)

we love you some more each day! BIG Hugs!

state trasnpsort buses and roadside chaat!!

actually my doc kinda just depended on my reading of the HPT and then took scan and confirmed pregnancy! no blood test etc. She said do you have to go for the vacation??!! i was like yeah! i mean we have been planning this for 3 months! gee!

but ofcos, if she had insisted we would have cancelled the trip! she didnt and off we were! :) she very sweetly told me that 40% pregnancies tend to get terminated in first 3 months and theres not much one can do about it other than basic precautions. i just nodded and got back to packing.

i was kinda scared but my fears were put to complete rest by rachna chachi who said, if your body rejects something, it usually means its not good for it! so dont worry!

after that therew as no looking back. we were on a whirlwind trip! and tho it sounds weird, we hardly slept on the same beds two nights in a row. Lucknow with its awesome chat and thick malaidar lassi was first indulgence. The only other precaution taken was drinking mineral water if outside homes. there was ofcos chat in delhi before that at IITF at pragati maidan of all places! we travelled bewteen few cities by state transport buses, hogged on special puri subzi off ambala streets and the works.

thankfully total lack of morning sickness or giddyness etc kept me all OK other than fatigue. Then ofcos came the part of hiding from people. Since first 3 months are so delicate and unpredictable and we werent excatly lying low, even closest friends and relatives couldnt be told! i am sure they wondered why i would go and lie down suddenly or whyw as mayunk hovering over me all the time asking me if i was doing ok?! :)

i think we managed to keep it to ourselves pretty well. Ofcos you cannot a fool a really old and experienced eye. Mayunk's naani asked him on 2nd day of our stay in lucknow itself - "sirf sardi zukaam hai, yaa aur bhi kuch?" hehe!

she being the reason of our trip (i had never met her and she couldnt make it to the wedding), we didnt have the heart to lie to her. she was overjoyed and gave her blessing which i am sure kept Bumpy safe through all our travel travails.

i sure hope you are strong kid Bumpy who will enjoy an iced gola from chowpatty as much as the fancy ice cream from Baskin and Robbins and not fall ill 'coz it wasnt mineral water! ;)

Bumpy, i think i can feel yout chhotaa chhotaa movements now, tho not full blown kicking as yet! you be gentle to your mom, OK??

Love ya lots! :)

but the second line is showing!!!

Hubby n me were just chatting kal n realised that since i had kinda started the blog late, first few days never got captured! so decided to do a bit of flashback to recap those moments. I dont think anyone of us can forget THE moment ever!

I was undergoing treatment for my PCO's and had ovulation induced. The doc said if you will either get your period next month or you will be pregnant! Since the treatment can take time to have effect, we werent really expecting anything! But i guess marriage anniversaries turn out to be lucky! ;)

By next month i was anxious anyway. Then i missed my period! I went to the doc. She was very vague n evasive and i was supposed to leave for 15day long vacation up north in another 2 days! I dunno why, but iw anted to check. I went ahead and bought a Home Pregnancy Tester called Velocit, which i had used quite a few times before with no luck ofcos.
I took the test as prescribed and with my heart beating faster than ever, i saw the results... It showed a second line which meant POSITIVE! i couldnt believe it!! i went out and showed to Mayunk! He said aise kaise ho sakta hai?? aur doctor ne bhi kuch nahi kahan! i said "But the second line IS showing!!"Mayunk goes "But its so faint"
we try not to be TOO elated lest the test is wrong! I go to the doc... happy and apprehensive at the same time! somewhere my intution was telling me i am right!
the doc confirmed my pregnancy and was thrilled! :) mayunk was SUPER kicked too! and then so were our parents! :)
Bumpy, the fact that you were being formed was the most amazing moment of our lives! now counting days to see you...
more of flashbacks later!

mujhe neend naa aaye!

considering i am NOT a Madhuri Dixit fan, its amazing how i end up using her songs!

It happened twice in two weeks! i have woken up at unearthly hour of around 330am and not been able to sleep after that! I keep tossing and turning. I wake hubby up! He tries to pat etc and put me to sleep. The only problem with that is that he sleeps off n starts snoring within 2mins of starting the process! Cant blame him. But it pisses me off even more!

I try getting up and reading! watching TV! breathe more deeply and count sheeps n zebras and zebra's stripes too! to no avail ofcos! :(

people say its a common side effect of pregnancy! and this is before i have even started feeling the kicks etc. Whats next??

This has been the only trouble in what till now has been a peaceful 4 months! :)

Like a buddy said, i would be ready to sell my soul for a bit of sleep once Bumpy is born.

Bumpy wont you try to be a NICE kid and let your mom sleep??

Least you can do is insist on Dad putting you to sleep, eh Bumpy??!! ;)

Both os us and whole lot of other people already love you lots n pots! Keep growing and rocking!

mmmuuuuaaaaaahhhhhh!

dhak dhak karne laga

It was time for my monthly check up today! Everything has been smooth and THAT sometimes makes you worry more. I was in quite a similar state of mind.

After usual wait, the nurse who hates me (her story for another day!) called me pretty much sonner than all times before. Doc asks me how i have been doing and i say just fine! I lie down expecting another scan. A chance to see Bumpy move again. But this time she just put this device which would let me hear Bumpy's heartbeat! The Doc said "Excellent! Perfect heartbeat!" And i smiled listening to the dhak dhak with the sounds of water as background.

I could hear whoosh whoosh of water interspersed with Bumpy's heart beating in natural rhythm. It was a wonderful experience!! :)

Apart from that my Blood Pressure is finally OK! The lower BP had been going kinda high upto 93! Doc had told me to reduce salt and spices too. I guess carrying home food everyday along with loads of fruits etc has made it okie. Today it was 120/80. Touchwood.

You keep going strong Bumpy! Love you lots! :)

i dont wanna wear a bedsheet!

my girth was never the smaller variety! i had been putting on weight even when i was not pregnant. I was relegated to using just one pair of jeans and salwaar kameezes! Soon the solitary pair of jeans also stopped fitting me. The only option was aunty clothes.
i kept pestering mayunk about how i want maternity jeans. The miraculous creation hat promised to strech as wide as you would go and let you look hep n hot right to your roundest phase. But we never ended up doing it and i was just ironing my kurtas everyday. I was told that Studio Mom in koramangala, Bangalore is where you get em. None of the bigger departmental stores were stocking any kind of maternity clothes which was quite weird.
Finally Hubby dearest traveled to a far away land. When he got back, i laid my eyes on a lovely pair of denims and trousers that would happily strech to waist size 43! (i do hope i wont need THAT MUCH!;)
Now i am wearing a hot pair of denims with bright kurtis and oversized shirts and feeling so much better!! : ) who says fat n pregnant ladies should look dowdy in boring clothes??
So ladies, go splurge some money on yourself and look n feel as beautiful and smart as ever without losing the comfort level!! :)
Next in line, when time comes, are those cute n short l'il maternity frocks!
Bumpy, hope you comfy in the new pair of jeans??!! :)
love you lots!

its all relative! :)

been quite a few days since i posted something! Not much happening i guess! Bumpy is doing ok and am looking forward to seeig him/her move during my scan end of this month. The dad might miss it agaiin. But then theres quite a few scans to go! And we are hoping we will see a happy n dancing kiddo in all of em! Amen! :)

i am someone who doesnt mind being alone. I do not get lonely just 'coz i dont have company. I have office, i go home, cook, watch all the movies hubby has watched or doesnt want to, read some and sleep.

So when i got a call yesterday from one of my uncles that they were in bangalore and that his mom wanted to visit me, i went ah no! There gos my relaxed evening doing nothing! His mom is my Dad's aunt, my grandpa's younger sister well into her sixties! So like my cousin grandmom!

Plus, with no Mayunk to supervise, the house has been pig sty i feel most comfy in. Papers strewn around, chaddar neva folded, clothes lying on every empty surafce (you get the picture!). When someone old is coming, you know they look at all these things pretty closely AND god forbid "critically". So i said i will be home by 730, you can come after that. Ofcos, she was staying miles apart, so my uncle dropped her at my office! this meant i HAD to sheepishly say "welcome home!' to that messy looking space. Ofcos she was very sweet and said you are working, and that too long hours, so its OK. Dont worry.

We reached home. Soon we were just sitting and talking comfortably about this and that. Family stuff and how age has changed things for her. Then we started seeing photos, our shaadi album, and she heard all my stories with lot of interest. Adding her own anectodes and opinions to them. Asking questions and answering mine.

Cooking time, and i made simple baingan bharta and dal. She ofcos offered to cook the whole meal saying when will you get ready khaana. (Mayunk, i miss you!!;) I jus asked her to make rotis, that i am terrible at and we had a simple dinner with some more chatting. She made it a point to praise my cooking! :)

on the bed too, she told me about her singapore-mal-bkk-pty-colombo trip. She even did paragliding!! How cool is that?!

The funniest incident shared was when she, the other 2 sisters and my grandpa were going to one of brother's place (they are 9 of em in all, grandpa being the oldest!) and went to the autorickshaw stand to ask them if they would go. The driver asked em "where do you want to go?' And not ONE of them could remember the NAME of the place. All saying they are older than the rest and how can they be expected to remember. They told him we know the way, you start moving and we will tell you once we remember! :)

All in all, the visit i was dreading turnd out to be quite an enjoyable one! She was genuinely happy to see us doing well and that she could spend at least an evening at our place.

You cant choose your relatives, but sometimes you are glad you dont have the choice! :)

information overload!

Internet, the boon of our times! I cannot imagine life before Google happened. Anything you want, ask and tho shalt find. Then ofcourse with so much information available it was a task in itself to find what you REALLY NEEDED. Correct keywords was the only answer and yet not fool proof!

I remember when i was diagnosed with PCOs (Polycystic Ovaries) which essentially means, as the name suggests, have cyst on your ovary/ies. We read up on the internet nd it came up with results that spoke about PCOs causing every illness from diabetes to cancer. Ofcourse infertility being another of side-effects since your menstural cycle goes for a toss and in my case, i could not ovulate regularly.

Only whn you meet the doctor and he/she does tests and then you know how serious is your own condition. Today medication can make almost any condition okay. I too took some medication and was able to concieve.

Now that Bumpy is here, ypu wonder what next? You rad again. They say women with PCOs have 50% chance of miscarriage. You get worried sick again. You go to your doc on next visit and ask almost in tears. She says "All of us ave 50% chance. Dont worry!" You go back smiling.

First trimester over and you are reading up website about pregnancy and its preparation and progress. Again you come across, you can screw up even in 2nd trimester which is supposed to be easiest. Its like a never ending story...

Reading up on Internet about all these things is great, but dont fret too much about everything you read. If you think you have any symptoms mentioned or have any serious doubts, just make sure you note them down and ask the doctor next time. No use getting paranoid about things that are not really your area of expertise.

Bumpy, dont be Abhimanyu, and learn something just half way through!! There is a lot to learn slowly as and how time comes!

Google hai naah?!:)

hunger pangs!

i guess Bumpy is getting bigger! i dont feel the weight as yet etc, but i am maddeningly hungry ALL the time! i am trying not to live by adage "You are eating for 2 people" 'coz all sensible people have told me, this just isnt true! :) its just not advisable to load yourself with ghee and works and put on cartloads of unhealthy weight, especially when you are overweight in the first place!

So here i am still not ready to believe that i get SO hungry! I am still trying to eat normally (obvious but stunning increase in appetite) and eat more of fruits than anything else! But how many fruits can one have?? Have been taking advice from more "experienced" people. Murmura (sukha bhel), sprouts, biscuits have come up as possible solutions. Lets see how it goes. I should call my doc and ask her anyway. I eat and then i am more hungry!

kya khaaye kya naa khaayen, yeh kaisi mushil, haye! :)

Bumpy, whatever i am eating, I hope its okie for you! Enjoy your stay sweetheart! :)

kuch kuch hota hai!

today is one of those days... you dont feel like doing anything. A sense of doom, albiet temporary, has cast its gloomy spell on me. I guess it has to be with hubby travelling a bit! I will be okie soon! actually i am already feeling betta!

i am sick of eating fruits! Today for a change i ate santra in the morning and will eat apple in the evening instead of other way round everyday. Thankfully the santra was sweet! Small mercies! hehe!

i puked yesterday! first time in 4 months of pregnancy! and it had nothing to do with it! just overate on paneer bhurji during dinner time. i wonder how women manage puking like 10times a day. they cant bear the smell of food even. my sis once puked seeing a picture of pav bhaji! gee! and to go to work in that, if you have et all. life cant be easy once you take this decision.

Maybe it doesnt get as happy either. Hope we make your stay worthwhile, Bumpy! :)

raise a stink!

i keep wondering how difficult it is to toilet train kids? Wonder if Bumpy will be a quick learner! The thought of cleaning "dirty" clothes kind of dampens my maternal instinct! We used to talk about getting a readymade potty trained child!! ;)

And then you also wonder how do people manage to unlearn this training!! My office has a unisex loo (just one person can go at a time!). More often that not i find the seat wet, tissues strewn around and worse flush not being used effectively! AAARRGGHHHH!

i mean what is it that stops people from practising basic cleanliness and loo etiquette?? Is it really that difficult?? I had just about enough of it and have been wanting to put up some kinda notice to all those guys who just dont seem to care.

I came up with an extremely caustic + sarcastic kind which Mayunk trashed and made some sensible changes so that it sounds official, yet not insulting! Helped me find coupla cartoons that didnt make it rude and it was set! jus pasting the same thing here. maybe it could be useful in your office too??!! ;)

NEW YEAR RESOLUTION - PISSING WITHOUT PISSING OTHERS OFF

PLEASE TAKE CARE OF THE FOLLOWING THINGS PEOPLE

1) GUYS if you have to pee please put the toilet seat up.

2) If you do not / cannot follow point number one, do not leave the Toilet Seat WET!!!!!!!!

3) Please use tissue or toilet paper in the loo to dry the seat if it’s wet after use.

4) Flushing is mandatory till everything gets flushed

5) Please throw used tissues and toilet paper in basket.

6) If you see the loo dirty, tell the housekeeping guy!

Bumpy, i hope you will be toilet trained for good!!! and quickly!! Amen!!

gaadi chalti rahe

i got behind the steering wheel again after wasted attempts over 3 months ago. I did the classes with a 70yrs instructor who used to hit me with a scale everytime i made a mistake. As long as he didnt wear leather...

then i started practising with my husband. He is VERY patient, but then you know how it is, I cant say anything to whipping instructor even when he hits me, but pati going just one level above in volume, tears would start dropping clouding my vision and further deteriorating my already weak concentration levels.

And then ofcos temperamental differences come in the picture! I am mad risk taker getting cheap thrills out of sharp turns, hubby is more sensible and safe driver. So, i would drive saying "But when i really drive, i cant drive like this naah, all safe n careful!". And he would go "Par meri Maa, you should atleast know how to!!"

Today was tad better. I cried ONLY once and car stopped just a coupla times. I dont know why i get into a frowny state everytime i am learning. Guess the fact that it takes so long kinda irritates me to no end. The fact that its not just dependent on the way you drive, but on thousand other morons on two and in 3 and 4 wheelers with whom you have to share the road. AAArrgghhh!!

I have been having my usual doubts about Bumpy's existence! Mayunk kept telling me that i have to stop being stupid! He can see me look fatter everyday. I guess this is the only time he can say it without risking my wrath or tears. Hehe! "You are getting fatter" puts a smile on my face! :)

Had a terrible backache yesterday and to think that its just the beginning. I cant stand for too long at a time or walk too much, tho my doc said after 14 weeks i could go for short walks as exercise. Right now getting out of razai for something as dull as walking isnt a great idea for me! But getting those kilos off will be so tough later!

i will worry about it later too!! ;)

Bumpy - love you lots! :)

its a "bumpy" ride!

i asked daddy to be "is it showing now, the bump?". from there somehwere now our baby to be is called Bumpy, very fondly and affectionately! :)

Bumpy, i think is doing just fine! i am trying to eat and live healthy. Actually eating 2 fruits in a day, the earlier average being once in 2 months. Take a lot of rest. Not eat out too often. And an assorted to do's and not to do's.

The only trouble Bumpy might be experincing would be bumpy roads in Bangalore. I have been taking call taxis (Cel Cabs) everyday 'coz doc has ruled out autos and my dear ol' two wheeler Dio! They can be quite a pain these taxis! I have been calling em almost for past 2 months, yet almost everytime there is a new driver! And finding our house is a herculean task for most. I keep teling the call centre guys, i need a driver who understands either Hindi or English, least as couple of words stringed types.

But to no avail. Just today he calls t 845 and says he will be there at 915, the time i have called the cab! doesnt ask for any directions, so stupid me, i assume he is a repeat guy n knows the ghar. Then he calls at 910 ASKING for directions! Inspite of giving them, he reaches same vague place which is landmark in their database!!!! (arre then why do u call n take directions???) Gee!

anyway we reach the point where he is waiting, and by then i am half n hour late and very upset. I try to calm myself down for Bumpy's sake! The weird habit these guys have is they say OK to everything you say. If you tell them two opp directions in the same breath, they will STILL say OK! And you will never know what they have understood. Its a peculairity of local cabbies n even bank sales guys here!

still remember an occassion where one of our cousins was calling a guy from a big bank. He says "Are you coming fromDiamond District side or Martahalli side?"
The bank guy "OK, sir."
He says "What ok? Which side are you coming from?"
"OK Sir." (DUH!!!)

Finally he reaches IBM office and calls "Saar, I have reached your office."

Cousin is a doctor who DOESNT work with IBM. Kya funda hai, pata nahi!

Now how does one explain the meaning of OK?? Gee!

Maybe things will be betta by the time you are here Bumpy, OK??!! :)

random thots ofcos

finally i have got down to blogging! its not so happening anymore and i dont expect any readers either! now of course you wont believe that i am an extremely positive and optimistic person! stupid stupid me!

but then here i am, to leave my memories for posterity, more like for my baby to come. I was just wondering it might be a fun thing to read when the kid is old enough to read and understand. yeah yeah! i know its not a brilliantly original idea or a Eureka moment! what the heck! i am doing this for fun and like the title says ramble a bit.

so a 27yrs old (young) mom-to-be, thats me who jus wants to pen (key in) a few of her thots, her feelings, the gyaan, the good, the bad and the ugly of pregnant women!
hope it turns out to be a memorable journey! amen! : )

cheerios for new year and new life!
