So Cubby is NOT so L'il Cubby now! :)

Its been over two years since I have this blog and have tried faithfully to keep a memoir (i love this word! makes our life sound very fancy!) of our life with Cubby. But even as I look back at old posts and can say this was the month Cubby first walked and this when he first talked, how much he has grown up still comes to us as a surprise every now and then. :)

I guess thats what makes this whole parenting gig so exciting. There are always bits and pieces apart from the big moments that make you think yet again what an amazing experience all this has been and continues to be! :)

So what makes me wonder about all this suddenly?! Our baby has grown up yet again and bowled us over with just how much! :)

M was supposed to go to Bombay for some work for 3 days. My brother and Cubby's Kuns Mama who had recently visited us was also going to be there and the said day was his birthday. Somewhere the idea took germ that perhaps M can take Cubby along with him. We mentioned it casually to my folks (more like thinking aloud), but then the grandparents wouldn't have anyway else. We kept getting calls every few days asking us whether we had booked his ticket already! (Terrible twos get worse when we have to pay the FULL fare to airlines because they allow, no, make it insist, on a separate seat for the diaper clad butt!)

So it was decided that Cubby would indeed go with his Papa and stay with his grandparents while M went out for his work during the day. This was the first time Cubby was going to travel supervised by just one parent and would have lots of time without even that parent being around him.

Aaji - Ajoba were all gung-ho and enthu and told us they will manage fine. If they say so who are we to question it?! :p

carrying his own bag with airline tag! :)

carrying a bag of candies bought at the airport!

D Day arrived and the father and the child left for airport by 730 in the morning. The kid was carrying his own small school bag which had an extra set of clothes, diapers and books! :) Terrible mother that I am, I totally forgot to pack any food for him. Not even cheese slice and bananas which are a standard fixtures. Not even something he can suck on during take off and landing to avoid ear pain. That is why the mehenga candies were bought at airport and I haven't heard the end of it from M esp 'coz Cubby ate just ate ONE of them! :p From what M told me he chattered non-stop on his way to the airport and through the flight and then the cab ride home in Bombay! :)

With Gauri Tai and Atho Dada on the etrrace where his Mom played! :)

He did cling to M a bit on day they reached but familiarity with Mama helped and by evening when he had met the adorable Gauri Tai and Atharva Dada it was like he has lived in that house forever! :)

Getting the first piece of Mama's birthday cake as guest of honour! :p

Next day, M left home by 9am. As is our habit he told Cubby that he will be going to office and that he is to have fun with folks at home and that his Papa will be back in the evening. So he said bye to M and got busy with his day! :) When i called him prompted by his Aaji he told me "Maine gulabjam khaaya, teeth saaf kiya, potty kiya" and then ran off to do whatever it is he was doing. He did recognize my voice easily and had a smile on his face he spoke to me! :)

Considering I don't eat anything I even fit in a bucket! :p

The father who rushed back to an empty house (Cubby had gone to gateway of India with folks) and was missing him terribly. His already broken heart was to be shattered when after coming back home Cubby just said a casual Heylo and ran off to play with his friends! :)

With Kuns mama at Gateway of India! :)

In the boat! :)

With the awesome aaji - ajoba who don't look like grandparents! :)

The only thing M had to do for him then was feed him and make him wear his night suit. Today is his day 3 there and my mom called me in the morning saying 3 kids were trying to dress Cubby up post bath and the Cub was enjoying the attention and pampering! :)

It is needless to mention that I (his mother) was not mentioned or asked for even once! Even when I called he was too busy to talk to me! Somehow I never thought this whole gig would be so easy! :)

Hats off to my folks. Am sure it was their pure and unadulterated love and child like excitement on having him over that made it so comfy for the Cub.

And ofcos big hugs to the Husband M who agreed to this sudden and whimsical idea and made sure it was a complete success! :)

I look forward to packing off Cubby to his grandparents for longer duration during summer vacays! :p

Yes, I am not very maternal that way! ;)

But that does not mean I am not terribly proud! :)

Edited to add - M's comment because its from the Horse's Caretaker's mouth and its too cute to not be added!

"I really can't remember the last time I saw him so happy. Since the moment we walked up the stairs in Dadar, he was at home. Once he saw the neighbor kids, he was obsessed. Soon he realized easy access to chocolates and gubabjamuns under nana-nani, and he was pampered!

Kuns called him "baby teenager" once. Now he is more so. He comes home late, wants to go back before his foot's in the door and hates it when we object to some of his more rowdy friends.

He's just too bleddy comfortable here. Considering it's his first time, it's just not right..."

Oh wow - have been following your status updates with interest !
We're all proud of both him and you! It can't have been easy to let him go (with all the what-ifs) but hey you took the first step.

Ok now it's time - for you know what - Cubby Part two of course !;p

Kudos to your parents and definitely to M. Pack him off by all means - there's no better gift he can get than grandparental affection and the chance to be spoilt rotten in your absence :)

A and M deserve the credit of not clinging to their son and letting us enjoy the love, affection, smile, wisecracks, and adorable uttering of our Grandson CubbR.

Always smile on his face and no kirkir,we are enjoying his company to fullest.

Their is small party in his honour where small kids(little older than him) are invited today evening.

Very sweet! Congrats to Cubby and his parents:) And grandparents too!
And please do this a few more times before Cubby Part two!

We packed Divya off to my parents when she was 2 also, and 4. Everyone concerned had a great time:) But we can't possibly send the two of them now (my parents want them...but I'm too nervous!), and if we send only one, the other will sulk and blow his/her top. So waiting and hoping:)

And yes, this is why people have only 1 or 2 kids...can't afford the airfares!

Poppy - i dunno if i am weird, but i wasn't exactly worried or even anxious. maybe it stems from the fact that M is completely capable of taking care of Cubby. and considering we are so far away from folks, i want him to stay longer with them as soon as possible. that he co-operated with us was a blessing! :)

Dad - that comment made me all teary eyed. i am so glad Cubby has you for grandparents! am sure there will longer stints in near future! :)

swaram - yeah. needed at least two days stuff to make a whole post! and ofcos photos! :) and yes vacays with grandparents were so much fun, innit? am sure the party is well under way by now! :)

R's mom - thanks!:) considering they get such little time with each other just trying to make use of every opp! this was a first for us and am glad it was a happy time for all! :)

priyanka - yeah! seriously! they just grow up so fast! :)

swati - i dunno if thing would have different if neither of us was there! but i am very proud of him too! :)

starry - but you should send both of them! they will take care of each other am sure! :) that way we wil also know what happens before we manage a cubby part 2! :p

M & A - :) thanks! i hope Cubby can do this kinda thing every now and then! :) and even we didnt send hom by himself! M was there! guess he will be 5 by the time we decide to leave grandparents at his mercy all by themselves! hehe!

JLT - :) yes! a lovely time was had by all. i am so glad we went ahead with the plan! :)

Dee - thanks babes! and they get back tomorrow morning! but lets catch up soon in any case! :)

rash - thanks! :) i used to stay with my grandparents from a very young age. if we werent staying this far, i would have done earlier! :)

Congratulations for :-
1) Cubby crossing 2 and his maiden one-parent flight.
2) Two year old blog.
3) The id "Vidooshak", I belatedly realized who Vidooshak is.

The fans of the "angry young man", fortunately, do not seem to be "angry" in their outing in Bombay (sorry Mumbai.)

hey it was a fun evening yest with cub and all the bacchas from ur bldg. momo had a lovely time with cub and ur folks n M, eating cake and playing with the big ball and cub's toys. tho not really playing with cub.guess they need to still grow up a bit more to play with each other. n cub didnt seem out of place or anything. he seemed so at ease, n his chatter is sooo cute. was fun to see momo n cub respond to rhymes in their own way, momo swaying/ doing actions and cub , singing baba baba and old mac don. adorable adorable.

Wow! I must say its so darn brave of you. More than the kids its us moms who cling to them leaving them suffocated at times. And I think you are more maternal than you think :)
I took my plunge when elder one was 12 and younger around 8. But I am glad you took the first step much soon :)
And cub! What do I say. He is so so cute with that independent look he he and yeah your parents can easily pass off for uncle/aunty ;)

I am so glad cubby is bonding with everyone ... there is something that makes our heart skip a beat when our kids love / accept our family.
Grandparents are the best i tell you .. they spoil their grandkids. You see a lot of their soft / sensitive side as grandparents which you'd have never seem as your parents.

Aww....you must be missing all the fun back home :( Arent you going for a few days? You've got one cool dude in your hands. Sweet pics!

What a beautifully written post Abha!!! I feel some of the things even now- oh the joys of an independent baby-teenager :)

Grandparents are such fun!! And they are having so much fun! I am sure he loved carrying his own bag and traveling!!! What a fabulous lot of memories ... err memoirs you are storing here for not just the two of you but for Cubby and his cubs too :)

Lovely, delightful read... and truest maternal instincts are the birds, who never forget to teach their babies how to fly. I am sure they are proud of them too!!

What an awesome read, Abha! I felt so proud of Cubby as I read through this. And of course, three cheers to you too my dear, for being such a super-cool mom!

What a lovely and unexpected holiday for him and your parents!

And I have to say, I agree with that Poppins woman ;p
Now that the Cub will be spending the better part of his holidays with his grandparents, you and M can get down to the very serious business of baby-making ;D
Junior Cubby chahiye hi chahiye! ;p

IHM - touche! that was a beautiful beautiful comment! :)

wow! really! Mama - Mia said...

G - not really. you know what my excitement was? in KNOWING what he is doing there in new environs rather than what would he be doing if he were home! :) it could be because it was just three odd days or because i always wanted him to be able to forge a close bond with his grandparents! :) and when are you gonna let us drool over your your l'il guy? lagta hai first birthday pe milenge seedha! :p how went your Mumbai trip?

cheers!

Boy! You sure write amazingly well. This post was so awesome even after all these years. The biggest loss with Bub's arrival has been your absence from lengthy blogs. So we miss out on chronicles of her cuteness.

Thanks for being the glue that keeps the madness together. Love ya so much!
