So yesterday Amma didnt turn up third time in this week and I had to take chhutti. Amma is usually careful not to take chhuttis over the week, but it was her daughter's shaadi that was getting fixed, so we couldn't even get upset! I hope things work out for them. The boy is 10th pass and earns 10k. And for this supreme achievement he wants a piece of land. Amma said she can give 5lakhs and 100gms of gold and the wedding expenses ofcos. WTF! No wonder we still think ladki is a boj.
And ofcos the boy wants the girl to stop working post wedding. I tried telling her why not wait some more, but between our broken hindi and kannada and her thinking Dowry is called Gauri (and i DON"T speak that badly!), all i knew was that she needed prayers and good will to be sent her way. Say a little prayer guys that all goes well for the family! :)
So since I was at home, I thought maybe I should do something "pativrataesque!" ;) According M, that means a hot cuppa tea and khaana should be ready when he is back from work - his argument being he keeps the subzi ready on most days! So I offered to make stuffed parathas instead.
Now our fridge was almost empty, but we did find some gobhi (cauliflower) and paneer. So, a combo of, what else - Gobhi - paneer was decided upon. M got to work with the grater, while I was kneading the dough and rolling it. Grating done, I added the standard hari mirch, dhaniya, salt etc to the stuffing.
Anyhoo, cut a long story short parathas were made and enjoyed and I found my place in Wife Heaven, am quite sure! ;)
Generally when I make stuffed parathas (which are not made as often as the word "generally" might make it seem!), I make two or three different ones. It might be paneer and spring onion, aloo and pyaaz, patta gobhi and cheese etc. So each paratha will have alag taste to it.
So this morning M was still dreamy eyed about last night's dinner. He said you should start naming your parathas. Like Spring Onion Surprise or something.
I retorted saying "Spring a Surprise" sounds nicer no?!
M made a face he makes everytime he knows I have bettered him and made me laugh like crazy!
Ofcos, then i started thinking for a while and from now on my Gobhi paratha will be called "Flower Power". Needless to say I got THE look again!! :P
Any other suggestions for Mooli, Alu and Paneer paratha? :)
Meanwhile Cubby is not far behind making us laugh with his verbal pyrotechnics! :)
The other day M said to me "Mummy, zara mere pair (legs) dabaado." Now cubby hates to see us close and will say "Utho! or Hato!" right away. If we don't oblige, he will physically wriggle himself between us! Hehe!
So just to not get him riled him M told him "aap bhi dabao aur Mummy ki help karo". So Cubby started his seva with as much gutso his little hands would let him manage.
Meanwhile I was started doing my bit too to which I heard Cubby's little voice saying "Mummy! Chhodo! Main kar raha hoon naah!"
WTH! :D
On that note Have a super weekend people! :)

LOL :) Flower Power and Spring a Surprise and 'Pativrataesque' ...am I not the first person to comment here?
And trust dear Cubby to refuse your offers of helping in 'sewa' - he is growing up into a real grandpa!
Some independent kid you have!! Wants to do everything by himself!!
And what is this with kids and their non-approval of parents getting closer to each other?? Every time Diya does it, I wonder if we should reconsider our plans to having a second child ;-)
Oh, and by the way, I hope next time we would get a taste of your 'flower power'!!!
Lol Dear Cubby's growing up . Little Zubin downsatirs refuses to let his parents sit next to each other .
Achha what did Cubby say about the parathas ?
My suggestions-
Aloo
1. Aloo ke paththe.
2. Janabe Aloo.
Mooli-
1. Chain koolie Ki Main Mooli ki Chain.
2. Moolicious Intent.
Paneer
1. Pun-eer Intended.
2. Pioneer Experience.
Kids don’t like competition while seeking attention. Mom wins over wife.
How about:
Mouli Muscle,
Batata Bhog,
Paneere Ishque.
Great as usual
lol
IHM, hitchy passed this bug to u too ;-)
and abha brilliant post...
cubby i just wanna hug that guy
and when are we getting a taste of ur paranthas ???
BTW in so much cuteness i totally forgot abt amma... r u serious abt that???
and she is saying she can actually give 5 lacs and so much gold????
how and when will things improve?
I like this idea. Who needs to go to a spa, when you have willing, little hands to do the maalish :)
nice post;-)
u are enthu woman!!! making various parathas at the same time! and i love the idea of cubby massaging, hmm makes me contemplate the whole kid thing in a different light :P tho the PDA thing is so funny, that must make for some entertainment ....
alle!!!!! cubby is a darling! :D
flower power??? i bow to ur creativity! parathas with retro names!! :D :D
Gauri??!! :P
sheesh abha...its so sad!! 5 lacs and 100gms gold?? :|
@ IHM: AHA! u too eh???
Kya re, papa, that was creative!! I am impressed. FE was also great, but he does it so often nowdays its almost for granted. Between him and ROFL Doc, they've got a lambi humour.
The parathas were rocking. Like Picasso, she paints (cooks) less but each dish is auctionable. Now if only she'd work on that Murg Mussalam...
Monika and Puja: drag yourself south side and surprise the lady for a change. Last minute parathas ka taste hi alag hoga!!
Flower Power!! what a name I say...lolz
I am still thrown off with the dahej thingy! hummmfff!
Such a cute post :) Popol is like Cubby, too. He'll drag one of us away or wriggle in between us if he sees us together :)
And I thought only Bubbles does that when me and D get close !
Now it my turn to 'bow'. Three different kind of stuffed parathas !!! I will have to travel to Banglore for those parathas on my next trip to India !
Flower Power is cool!
How about Paneer Passion? That's all I could come up with :P
u are awarded abhaaa!!!
U r so bad!!! why don't u let our dear cubby do the needful??? faaltoo main beech main haath kyun daaalti ho???
Haha...those were clever names...nothing like parathas for a satisfying meal ,eh?
And laughed my ass off about cubby coming between the two of you...same thing happens here!
Radish Fetish? Hulloo Allooo!! And Cheese Please :) Okay that was the best I could come up with. But wow, never realised 10th pass claimed so much. No wonder the ladki-ek-bhoj type serials abound.
:) yes! first one alright! and Cubby's not letting me help has nothing to do with being nice! he wants his father to himself! :p
Puja - when there are two of em hopefully they will keep each other busy! :p we can live in hope! and woman! you think i am gonna dare cooking for ya! :p
EL - well! when we sit together woh ek ki godi mein hota hai! hehe! and what did cubby say about parathas? the child doesnt wanna eat ANYTHING! unless amma is feeding him! :( tho he did make excited remarks about eating "pawatha" hehe!
~uh - well expectedly brilliant stuff! :D and btw, dad also wins over hubby which happens more often in our case! :P
papa - awesome stuff! :D
monika - make my "pawathas" for an expert cook like you??!! dream on! :D and yeah, 5 lakhs and the negos are still on! dunno if she took similar stuff for her SON's wedding! :( vicious circle this, i tell ya!
rohini - yes! if only he offered to the same for me! though he does religiously bring me my creams post nahaana and applies some for himself! hehe!
Mo2 - Thankoo and welcome!
CP - arre its no effort to make stuffing naah! its the rolling them that i hate! :( and PDA! yeah! we ask him tujhe kisne bulaaya to which he will giggle and then wriggle in some more! :p
CS - even if Cubby thwacks me someday you will say alle he is so cute! you just biased crafty! ;)and yeah its just too much gauri they are demanding! :(
V - kyon faltu mein logon ki expectation badha raha hai! i am a very averge cook! :(
AF - yes! the dahej thingie is horrid! what to do! i told her to educate her grand daughter well...
MM -- whats with these kids anywayz! :p
2B's mommy - Bubbles ki age tak yeh sab chalta hai! hadd ho gayi! :P and dude, you think i will cook in front of ya! bah!
D - me likey panner passion! :D
mandy - hopping over! :)
smita - arre! woh hamaare beech aata rehta hai uska kya??!! :p
avanti - you too suffer from kabab mein haddi syndrome, huh?! to think we volunteered for this! hehe!
cuckoo - LOVED your sggestions! :)and yeah! ladki ek bojh feeling stems only from this! :(
cheers!
abha
LOL! Loved the names. Am shocked that Amma can afford 5 Lakhs + 100 gms gold. Am I in the wrong profession or what ? ;)
Poppin was never jealous of the two of us (which explains Sweetpea) but Sweetpea is so darn sure she doesn't want any more siblings !
She with her puny body weighing 8 kgs just flings herself on me, right under the husband till she wedges him out. All the while with fake tears !
Hey abha,
Nothing like hubby singing praises of wife's well-cooked food na....so bask in the glory while it lasts!!! hehe :P
Lol at Cubby's antics......he is soooooo adorable!!
Deepa
hey that's a great idea - naming the dishes. But I am alittle afraid that I might begin to set expectations high and a certain level of expectation which I'd rather avoid. hehehe.
So cute of cubby! and you make the little sweetheart work so hard! How can you be so heartless!
that is really an awww moment.
But you really take the cake with the parantha naming...
LOL....loved the names for parathas...though I should say you win hands down! You dont have to worry now Abha...Cubby has taken over the seva duties :) I hope amma returns soon to help you out...and good wishes and luck to her daughter!
poppin - ah well! mostly you dont want a third one! so its okie! hehe! and finally Amma's negos didnt work and the guy is insisting on land! so no shaadi as of now.
deepa - arre faltu mein chadhaata rehta hai taaki main banaati tahoon! i am a etrribly average cook!
Usha - oh! i always whione and whine about my cooking forcing M to say some encouraging words to me! ;) and as for making cubby work! he insists! you take jhadoo in hand he wants tos weep! ypou take pocha he wants to mop! :p
mampi - oye! missed ya! :D thankoo!
HC - thankoo! and yeah! i hope he continues with the sewa! and yeah amma is back! that shaadi plan didnt pan out with the guy not reducing his demands! :(
cheers!
abha
Oh, what a lovely lovely weekend. :)
Awesome...now you can rope Cubby in to do your headmassages after he gives you a headache...like I do with the brat.
And you domestic goddess, you!!!!
Hehehe!! Cute that Cubby is! And YO is the exact same!
As for creative parata names, hmmm,
how about 'Desi Cheez' for paneer? And 'Mooli Moolah' for mooli?
And good luck to Amma, I hope everything works out well for her daughter...
The parathas sound so yummy..HeHe..and tell me about the kabab me haddi..A is full competition with H..i keep teasing H ki is competition ka tum kuch nahi kar sakte :)
:) :) :)
that's cubby probably trying to make sure his parents don't spring a surprise on him!
:D
cute post abha!
so glad at the way things finally turned out with your amma's daughter's marriage proposal.
and how bout calling your mooli parata the radical roti :)
can't think of anything else half as witty as spring a surprise - trust you abha to come up with something like that! hugs m
