just a quick BIDWF moment with the junior jain! :)
Cub turns 3 next month and this time we plan to have a big pahty with everyone we know and care about being there. Past two years we have had quieter affairs and haven't done anything in Bangalore, ever!
So, yesterday on our car ride to a restaurant I asked him "Cub, what cake do you want? An aeroplane? or nemo? Mowgli? Baloo? Sully?" and all the other animated characters he likes. He listens to me for sometime and then says "Nahi! Mujhe sirf chocolate cake chahiye!"
Both M and me burst out laughing and told him that cake will be chocolate only with whatever picture he wants on it! :)
and tonight he asked his father when he was changing him into night suit"I am looking cute, naah?!" HUH?!
Best bud Momo's ma tagged me to talk about My Sins against the gender stereotype.
For the longest time I wanted to be a guy to get all the freedom guys do. I used to be a pucca tomboy and couldn't imagine a different life! But soon I knew i could be the girl i was and yet do what i wanted! Total win-win situation, eh?! :)
I am not into dressing up / make up. Yes, i like my lipstick, but thats it. I dont even know how to apply nail polish on my own! gah!
I have been riding a two wheeler since I was 16 and still LOVE it! Thanks to my Dad who refused to mollycoddle me, I even have a fair bit experience in pushing my two wheeler to the closest service station and getting it repaired! Ofcourse, I am yet to learn to drive and hope to some day!
Maybe because books available at home were my Dad's taste, i have not read a single mills and boons or danielle steele, but devoured the Robin Cooks, John Grishams, Dick Francis Arthur hailey and gang!
I started traveling on my own to Pune by train by the time I was 10 and was traveling by overnight buses to Kolhapur by 12 years.
I wore shorts in my teens much to chagrin of most of our neighbours! I still wear em and dont really care about the neighbours anymore! ;)
I worked super late hours and traveled by myself in trains and cabs.
In both my pregnancies, i managed / am managing my doc visits etc on my own without needing M to accompany me.
I got a tattoo done and did not scream in pain or shed a single tear! :p
I could not cook to save my life till I got married and now both us can churn out a decent meal! :)
I could not be the shy bride even if I wanted to and grinned throughout the ceremonies and later!
i LOVE Tarantino and Guy Ritchie movies including Kill Bill. Ofcos the change in taste happened post shaadi, but am glad for it. So now I can watch mush and dhishum dhishum with equal ease.
I have gotten off my bike to move huge stone in the middle of the road that was causing traffic jam while all men waited for god knows what and giggled when I did it. gah!
I have gone out with all guy gang of friends at 3am for cutting chai and bhurji pav and really miss those days.
and though we never had offcial proposal between us, it was me who initiated "lets be more than friends" with M and hounded him till he married me! I still cry buckets everytime i watch Friends episode where Monica proposes to Chandler. :)
When it comes to living up to the gender norms, I still havent tried learning the whole finance bit and i cry a lot! For good and bad stuff! :D Yet, right now I am comfortable in my skin and enjoying being me!
I think whole world has been tagged with this, so if there is someone who hasn't done it as yet, feel free! :)

What is a BIDWF??
Wow....That was a great list :):)and LOL on the chocolate cake...can I have a piece too ;)
I grinned throughout my wedding too!
Dhruv n Cubby are brothers in chocoholism! He said the same thing for his birthday cake...it had to be chocolate, the shape and appearance were not his concern!
Loved your list!
All these kids are bitten by the chocolate bug. So finally, what cake is Cubby getting?
Your list was fun. I couldn't compile a list because I am seriously confused as to what belongs to which gender.. I love my shorts, grinned through my wedding and hate makeup, but never realised it was unlady-like :D
Cool list, tho i knew most of it, except travelling alone at age 10 n 12 . wow. n moving the rock aside on the road, that is so typical you. n pliss do send some choc cake here. :)
I dare to say that I will gatecrash at the bday party!!!
I want Choco Cake too!!! Be what u want to be - mostly you have been doing that - but now do more of it!! Learn what you dont know and surprise everyone - learn secretly. Finance and car driving are relatively simple. JUST DO IT!!!

Nice post MM! You are so good at this kind of listing...you clearly know and remember. I would have to think hard to write this post!
I enjoyed the stone bit and I can totally believe you smiled through your entire wedding ceremony. If I ever saw you crying I would think you are faking it! :)
RO - I googled it and found this:
Before you ask, that’s ‘Because I Don’t Want to Forget’!!! Got that from Mama-Mia, of course!
LOL@ Cub choosing chocolate cake over Ballu and Mowgli Cake :) My son eats anything so long as it's chocolate even at 18!
Traveling alone to Pune at 10, and Kolhapur at 12 was brave!!! Not caring what the neighbours say can be very liberating. I know I wouldn't really bother either.
You aren't alone in your sins - there are so many SAGS - that soon there would be no stereotypes left :)
Absolute sweetheart cub is. He has his choices absolutely clear :)))
And yeah am a bad cook too ... Hi five for that ;) can drive a car. But I love junk jewellery, I love wearing saree, I love dressing up. So I really don't know where I belong he he
So, how's health now? Don't eat too 'much icecream, girl :p
Loved the 'not a shy bride' part!! Can relate so much to it :)
And I still have to act on that tattoo inspiration (from you ) .. Just gathering enough courage for that :)
I love Kill Bill too. And yay to you for the marriage initiation.
Ha ha ha. Very very cute Cubby :)
So, cn I book my tickets ;)
High Five on Tarantino and Guy Ritchie movies !
Can't believe that you grinned through your wedding though ;-)
Ro - Because I dont wanna forget! :D
R's mom - yeah sure! have 2 pieces! ;)
Dee - i know!! :D
starry - they are boys after my own heart then! ;)
Violet - if you didnt even realize its unlady like then there is no hope for ya! :p
Momo's ma - come to bangalore for the pahty i say! its been a long time anyway!
timepass - dont gate crash! you are totally invited! :D
dad - a lot of my learning has to do with the fact that you guys let me go and make my mistakes! :)
Noon - you will be surprised to know how often i cry! :D and i have a googlable term to myself??!! whow!
IHM - i am glad he has my chocolate fixation! ;) and yes, lets hope for no stereotypes soon enough! ;)
WIAN - i think we all are a mix of everything! women now can show their other side much more easily than men can tho! :(
Puja - you go get one now! ;)
sls - welcome! :) and you love kill bill too?? cool! :D
swaram - pls do! this sat! :)
PV - Hi Five! tho i cannot claim to have encyclopedic knowledge about em the way you do! :)
cheers!
abha
Group huddle on the QT, Guy Ritchie movies? :)
And I want chocolate cake too. Sometimes their wants are so simple I feel like giving in just because of that. :)
Very interesting comments. Astounding number of 'wedding gigglers' here, when Indian weddings are all about being solemn and sad. The part near the fire at least; the rest is full-on dhamaal! LOL
Look forward to seeing you all at Cubby's 3 Party, although we are sure to suck at it. 15 or more kids in 1 single room? Brrrrrrrrr
I grinned throughout my wedding too :) in fact at one point the camera chappie came and told me that the bidaai ceremony was going on and if I couldn't get myself to shed a tear could I please stop smiling at least!
Nice list! I share the 'grinning at the wedding' part! V was also very clear about his 'cake' He wanted a 'drum' cake and did n't bother about the flavor though!
Chocolate cake...yum!! The boy has so got his priorities right!!
And he's so easy!! Please send him over so that he can rub off on my boys, who have planned the next three year's worth of cake designs in advance!!
You know what, ever since you announced about 2B I've been eager to let you know my story but could n't find any id to mail you. Anyway, out of curiosity I went through your old posts and guess what... V and Cubby were born just a few days apart. Looks like the same is going to happen with our second babies too!!!
didnt u try to drive a bike like yamaha ;)
when u proposed, M must be shocked.. usually, gals hardly propose..
